Despite having a strong start to the game, Esther put Real Madrid in front on 11 minutes and Marta Carro almost scored the equaliser for Valencia CF Femenino with a great header that went narrowly off target on the quarter-hour mark.
VCF Femenino kept on pushing to get back in the game with fine link-up play between A Torrodá, Candela and Asun on the half-hour mark. Four minutes later, Asun finished off a move that went straight at the keeper.
Esther doubled Real Madrid’s lead on 38 minutes and grabbed her brace.
The remainder of the half played out with no incidents and Valencia CF Femenino trailed Real Madrid at the break by 2-0.
The home side started the second half enjoying possession. However, it was Asun who enjoyed two clear cut chances to no avail.
Andrea Esteban’s side halved the arrears through an Altuve strike who fired it home with a follow-up strike to Gerard’s clearance to Marta Carro’s effort who had a second swipe at it after Salmi ‘had rattled the crossbar.
With little over 20 minutes plus stoppage time remaining Valencia CF Femenino upped their tempo and forays into the opposition box and on 87 minutes, Altuve almost latched onto the ball inside the box but the goal did not go up on the scoreboard and Valencia CF Femenino came away undeservedly empty-handed.
